After hours of editing and uploading the water filter build video is up, the only thing I have noted since assembly and addition of water is a minor leak where the pipe comes through the can. I am going to have to take it all back apart and re-seal it from leaks. it has a drip that I am uncomfortable with.
Keep in mind water weighs about 8 pounds per gallon, plus the weight of the rocks and sand in this can will bring you up to a few hundred lbs. you not only want to make sure the can will be able to handle the weight, but the surface you put it on should be able to handle it it as well. I don't want to think about not making the investment for wheels to it, it's hard enough to move it around with them. It is for sure, a justifiable and worthwhile investment!
I did make a mistake by not testing it for leaks with water before putting in the rocks and sand, although I was in a hurry to get it done for the blog.. taking the time to check it for leaks first would be a good idea!
It will definitely be a good fail-safe to have for your disaster preparations in the event of the primary water supplies being interrupted. A back up is always a good idea!
